Cerrowire Breaks Ground on New Facility May 4

Hartselle, AL – Cerrowire, a leading U.S. manufacturer of copper building wire, broke new ground on May 4 when leadership lifted the first shovelful of Hartselle, Alabama, soil to begin work on their 270,000 SF Metal Clad cable facility at Morgan Center Business Park at 2100 Byrd Road.

“It’s always great to see a company like Cerrowire launch plans to expand their operations in Alabama,” Governor Kay Ivey said. “Cerrowire is a top-class manufacturer, and its growth project in Hartselle will bring high-quality jobs and expand the operation’s capabilities. Those are positive developments for the community and the state.”

Secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce Greg Canfield said, “Cerrowire’s significant investment in this new Alabama facility will position the company for future growth while also providing a meaningful financial boost to the Hartselle area through the creation of new jobs and opportunities.”

Slated for a January 2023 completion date, Cerrowire’s MC cable plant will employ more than 80 Cerrowire team members at start-up, with that number increasing to more than 120 within three years.

The investment of over $100 million will provide for a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility with advanced systems and equipment, allowing the 102-year-old company to further its commitment to high quality and cost control while creating more job opportunities in the region.

“We are looking ahead to an even stronger future by extending our product offerings to position Cerrowire and its retail partners and electrical distribution partners for continued success,” President Stewart Smallwood said.

A growing sector in the building wire market, Metal Clad (MC) cable is a metal jacketed cable used in most types of building construction — primarily in commercial — but also some residential and industrial applications. Facilitating a streamlined installation process for electricians and electrical contractors, MC cable provides for lower cost factors, driving growth in demand and sales.

Cerrowire had its beginnings in New York in 1920 as Circle Flexible Conduit Company, manufacturing the predecessor to Metal Clad cable. Today, after many changes, including the name, consistent growth finds the company with four manufacturing plants producing copper wire and its components in Alabama, Georgia, Indiana and Utah. Cerrowire has been manufacturing copper wire at its Hartselle facility for 47 years at 1099 Thompson Road.

“Cerrowire’s decision to locate an additional manufacturing facility in Morgan County speaks to the preparation of our workforce, the quality of life in our region, and the continued strength of our economic future,” said State Senator and Morgan County Economic Development Association Chairman Arthur Orr.

Cerrowire recognized Morgan County and Hartselle leadership, members of the Morgan County Economic Development Association, Alabama Department of Commerce and the Tennessee Valley Authority for their support and commitment to the enterprise and continued growth in the Morgan County area.
